Product Designer – NSW

About the Role 

We are seeking a talented Product Designer to join our team in Sydney, based in our Surry Hills Showroom/Head Office. Reporting to our Managing Director, this part-time role (three days per week) is responsible for designing and developing our handmade rugs, managing the product life cycle, and collaborating with our Product and Design Coordinator. Specifically:

Key Tasks – Design

  • Set creative briefs and design direction, and translate design briefs into inspired/innovative design content that aligns with the overarching brand design direction
  • Present concepts and products to Directors for review and approval
  • Explore, source and select appropriate fibres for development
  • Drive creative reviews of work in progress
  • Sketching/illustrating/storyboarding/referencing/CADs
  • Collection creative direction and product designs
  • Analyse product mix and product life cycle (i.e. discontinuing product)
  • Approve custom design enquiries from the Sales team
  • Ensure styles are in line with product matrix and channels
  • Complete competitor analysis
  • Attend international sourcing fairs and production trips

Key Tasks – Product Management

  • Approve all final production sample before supplier production commences
  • Develop, implement and conduct appropriate training to internal staff and agents/distributors
  • Supervise the negotiation and confirmation of all products
  • Build strong and genuine relationships with overseas suppliers to maintain and reflect our brand values
  • Maintain the Company’s best production practices with suppliers (e.g. yarn sourcing, dyeing, weaving, finishing)
  • Ensure all products meet high quality standards (Quality Control)
  • Provide Demand Planner with projections for most popular colours on new products and comparable products in existing ranges

About You

You will be a passionate designer who demonstrates a high level of personal motivation, with solid knowledge and experience across production and textiles. This role is creative so we need someone who can conceptualize and deliver beautiful products, as well as contribute new and innovative ideas to improve the way we work. You will bring to the role:

  • Experience as a product/textile designer
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • A flexible approach to work
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign)
  • A reputation as a self-motivated individual with a professional, enthusiastic and can-do attitude
  • The ability to align with the brand’s aesthetic
